Between 1837 and 1843, Georgiana Molloy collected specimens and seeds of the native plants of Taalinup and Undalup (Augusta and Busselton) and sent three exquisite botanical collections to James Mangles in London, who had requested the work. They were the highest quality that British botanists had ever received from WA. She was self-taught but her dried wildflower specimens are still studied in world herbariums. She died aged thirty-seven, having received no payment or formal recognition for her scientific achievements.

‘A Lady’s Pen’ provides the first full, unedited transcriptions of her letters to Mangles.

Join author Bernice Barry for this fascinating journey through the remarkable and enduring work of WA’s first internationally successful female botanist.

Bernice Barry will be joined by Professor Stephen Hopper AC FLS FTSE, Winthrop Professor of Biodiversity in the Centre of Excellence in Natural Resources Management at UWA, who will be launching the book.

Ticket Price $10

This event is a Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival fundraiser – please join us in supporting the arts in Margaret River.
