Poet Emily Dickinson famously implored us to ‘tell all the truth but tell it slant’. Join lecturer and author of the book Kintsugi, Dr Marie O’Rourke for this deep-dive into questions of memory and language in narratives. Learn how to find new ways to shape past experiences on the page through a combination of writing exercises, readings and sensory prompts. This workshop will help you embrace your past self, experiences and relationships while trying your hand at innovative narrative forms.

Participants are asked to bring along a small personal keepsake (something of sentimental rather than monetary value) as well as physical or digital copies of 2-3 favourite photographs (these can be of you alone or with other people and ideally will be taken at different ages/stages of life). Both the physical item and photographs should be in some way significant to your memories (related to recollection of a ‘previous’ self, another person, a place) and spur some questions in your mind when you look at/think on them.
