About the

Visual Stories 2019


Each year, the Visual Stories Art Competition and Exhibition forms an exciting part of the Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival with works displayed before and throughout the event, adding a unique perspective on the festival theme for all to enjoy & contemplate.

The theme of the 2019 Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival is ‘Wild, weird & wonderful‘. Details of the Visual Stories Art Competition and Exhibition to be held as part of next year’s event will be released in January 2019. Entrants have the chance to win a share of up $2,000 worth of prizes with winners to be announced at the Festival Launch and published online.

Visual Stories 2018


STORY POLES

Artists were asked to respond to the festival ‘Stories that shape us’ with a 3D artwork in the form of a ‘Story Pole’. Works were exhibited at the 2018 festival site in Voyager Estate gardens. Judged by Sandy Tippett from Studio Bistro Gallery, the winners were:

  • 1st Place: Rika Rouw – ‘They came to Margs’
  • 2nd – Kashmir Rouw – ‘Jarrah Totemic Head’
  • 3rd – Ken and Robyn Collins – ‘Encased’
  • Highly Commended – Kerry Sibly – ‘Karrak Ter Building’
  • Highly Commended – Kashmir Rouw – ‘Spirit in the Wood’
