Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival

Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival

The Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival is the flagship annual literature event of Arts Margaret River. It is the biggest regional literary event in Western Australia and aims to foster a love of literature and the arts within the community.

Each year, the festival brings an array of thought-provoking writers to the region including novelists, journalists, academics and established and emerging storytellers from WA, interstate and overseas.

The Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2018. What began as a modest local project in 2009 has grown to be Western Australia’s largest regional literary festival with a significant youth component that tours schools in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River and the City of Busselton.

Wild, Weird & Wonderful

The theme for the event in 2019 is ‘Wild, Weird & Wonderful‘ and it is our aim that the festival truly reflects this. The festival is multi-dimensional and includes author talks, interviews, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, book signings and the Festival Workshop Series. There are many opportunities for emerging writers and self-published authors, as well as activities to bring stories to life in many forms.

In 2018, the festival was expanded beyond the walls of the Arts Margaret River Cultural Centre to create a vibrant hub of entertainment.

In 2019, due to the redevelopment of the Margaret River Cultural Centre, the festival will be held on the grounds of picturesque Voyager Estate winery.
