Paris Savages brings history to blazing life in a novel about three Badtjala people who sailed to Europe from Fraser Island in 1882 to perform to huge crowds. While their dances, singing, fights and pole climbing are fascinating to the crowds, the attention is relentless and the scientists intrusive. Author Katherine Johnson reflects on bringing the past into the present and future, through research, imagination and writing.
