He was once living in near total-isolation in the forest, foraging for food and eating bats. When he finally emerged, emaciated and close to death, he was determined to give society another chance. Today, Dr Gregory Peel Smith, who left school at the age of fourteen, has a PhD and teaches at university. Out of the Forest is his remarkable memoir.
