Susan Midalia

Susan Midalia is a former academic with a PhD and journal publications in contemporary Australian women’s fiction. She retired in 2006 to become a full-time fiction writer, and has since published three collections of short stories, all shortlisted for major national literary awards, and a novel, The Art of Persuasion, recently published to critical acclaim. The novel draws on Jane Austen’s model of comedy in order to explore the subjects of family, love, work and contemporary Australian politics.

Susan is also a freelance editor, a workshop facilitator, a mentor to emerging writers, a board member of Margaret River Press and a volunteer teacher in A Maze of Stories, a program that encourages socially underprivileged children to think and write creatively.

She grew up in the Western Australian wheatbelt and has lived for most of her adult life in Perth. She is married, with two adult sons (her two best creations).
