Tanya Heaslip

Raised on a cattle station north of Alice Springs during the 1960s/70s, Tanya learnt about the outside world through the Correspondence School and School of the Air. She spent many hours dreaming of the overseas lands depicted in her childhood storybooks. Tanya went on to become a lawyer but never stopped dreaming, which led her to the Czech Republic to teach English in 1994, four years after the Berlin Wall fell.

Returning to Australia some years later, Tanya moved to Margaret River. She wrote about her Czech experiences and won a place in the Australian Society of Authors’ Mentorship Program.

Practising law and finalising the memoir over many years has been a journey for Tanya who now lives back in Alice with her husband. She is currently writing a new work about her childhood in outback Australia – a place for many Australians as foreign and exotic as the Czech Republic.
